  Old city-centre coaching inn is basis for this hotel. Several buildings connected together, with strange level changes and half-landings, and stairs. There is a lift but it doesn't go to top floor! Room was small, but fine with comfortable bed and reasonably quiet. Good small bar and dining area was fine for breakfast. A couple of small probems with room were sorted quickly and without fuss. Paid parking at back - bit of a swindle.

  First impression was not good. The guy at the bar told us that not all the deals advertised were actually available. He also told us we couldn't pay by card. When I asked why, he answered "Because this is an event." Perfect logic. On top of this, they shut the bar 2 hours earlier than they said they would. However, the social was awesome, the food was exquisite and the night was a huge success thanks to their efforts.

  It was a lovely function room and the food was really nice. My issue was that the bar was very expensive and didn't take cash, with the only reason given to us being "it is an event." Didn't really understand why that meant they wouldn't take care.

  Lovely hotel located in an ideal spot. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Only negative is that the fire alarm went off at 5.50am and woke everyone up!
